Sanabi (Higher Secondary):

The Sanabi or Higher Secondary course at Al-Azhar is a comprehensive three-year program that builds upon the foundation laid in the Idadi (Lower Secondary) stage. This advanced level of education is designed to deepen students’ knowledge in both Islamic and secular subjects, providing them with the skills and understanding necessary for academic success and personal growth.

During the three years of the Sanabi course, students engage in an extensive study of the Qur’an, including advanced recitation techniques (Tajweed) and memorization. They also delve deeper into the foundational Islamic sciences, studying Usul al-Din, which includes key areas like Tawhid (the oneness of God), Tafsir (Qur’anic interpretation), Hadith (the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad), and Sirah (the biography of Prophet Muhammad). Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) is also a core subject, ensuring that students have a strong understanding of Islamic law and ethics.

In addition to the religious subjects, the Sanabi curriculum places significant emphasis on the Arabic language, with advanced studies in Arabic grammar (Nahw), morphology (Sarf), rhetoric (Balagha), and classical Arabic poetry (Aruj-Kafiya). These subjects enable students to gain a profound understanding of the Arabic language, which is essential for interpreting Islamic texts and engaging with classical Arabic literature.

Students are also taught Khat (calligraphy), a skill that is highly valued in Islamic culture for its aesthetic and practical significance. English language instruction is also an integral part of the curriculum, enabling students to develop proficiency in communication and modern academic fields.

The Sanabi course includes a well-rounded set of secular subjects, such as Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, History, and Geography. These subjects are designed to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, ensuring that students are well-prepared for higher education and the challenges of the modern world.

Computer Studies are taught to familiarize students with modern technology and the digital world, which is crucial in today’s rapidly evolving environment. Lastly, Tarbiyah, or moral education, is embedded throughout the course to nurture students’ ethical development, instilling values such as responsibility, respect, and compassion, and ensuring that they grow into well-rounded, ethical individuals.

Through this diverse and rigorous curriculum, the Sanabi course at Al-Azhar aims to produce students who are not only academically competent but also deeply knowledgeable in Islamic teachings, equipped with the skills to excel in both religious and worldly pursuits.
